Position A matches a cable length of ca 2 meters , while the last POSITION L matches approx 70 meters
That way you are able to lower the resonance frequency of the pickup-cable combination.
Especially (vintage) single coil pickups will sound best with the right cable connected. If the cable quality is
too good (the capacity per meter is very low) the the resonance frequency is too high. This will result in a harsh
ice pick tone. The audible effect of the cutter results in kind of a smooth treble tone control
